…that aren’t just drinking Guinness (but also, definitely drink Guinness)
Dublin totally stole my heart. I’m not sure if it was the friendly locals, the charming cobblestone streets, or the fact that there’s live music around every corner — but something about this city just works. If you’re planning a trip to Ireland’s capital (or just daydreaming about it), here are my top things to do in Dublin that will make you fall in love with the place too.
- Start with a Pint at the Guinness Storehouse
Let’s get the obvious one out of the way: YES, go to the Guinness Storehouse. It’s touristy, it’s iconic, and honestly? It’s really
fun. The tour walks you through the brewing process, Guinness ads through the years (some are hilariously weird), and it all
ends with a free pint and a 360° view of Dublin at the Gravity Bar.
➡Hot tip: Pour your own pint in their tasting experience. It’s a great photo opp! - See the Book of Kells at Trinity College
Even if you’re not a history nerd, Trinity College is worth a visit. The Book of Kells is a stunningly detailed manuscript from
over 1,200 years ago, and the Long Room Library looks like something out of Hogwarts. I swear I spent more time
photographing the bookshelves than reading anything.
Pro tip: Go early or book ahead — it gets crowded fast. - Take a Stroll Through St. Stephen’s Green
This park is like Dublin’s own little Central Park. It’s right in the city center and perfect for a quiet moment between sightseeing
stops. I grabbed a coffee, parked myself on a bench, and just people-watched for an hour. Bliss.
Bonus: Right next to Grafton Street — hello, shopping. 🙂 - Kilmainham Gaol: One of the Most Powerful Sites in the City
This old prison turned museum is one of the most emotional experiences I had in Dublin. The stories of rebellion, resilience,
and Irish independence come to life here. The guided tour is so worth it — it gave me chills.
Book online. Seriously. It sells out fast. - Get Lost in Temple Bar (In the Best Way)
Yes, it’s a little touristy. No, I don’t care. Temple Bar is fun — full stop. There’s live Irish music pretty much 24/7, cozy little pubs
with fireplaces, and street performers keeping the energy up outside. I had the best night hopping between bars here.
Temple Bar pub is iconic, but check out The Auld Dubliner or The Palace Bar for less-packed vibes. - Walk Along the River Liffey + Snap a Pic on the Ha’penny Bridge
There’s something super peaceful about strolling along the River Liffey, even though you’re in the middle of the city. Crossing
the Ha’penny Bridge (named because people used to pay half a penny to cross it!) is basically a must for your Instagram.
Best at sunset — trust me.
- Take a Day Trip to Howth (For Cliffs & Seafood)
If you’ve got time, hop on the DART train and head to Howth, a picturesque coastal village just 30 minutes from the city. I did
the cliff walk (moderate hiking involved, but worth it) and then devoured the best fish & chips of my life.
Go to Beshoff Bros or The Oar House — you can’t go wrong.
- Explore Dublin Castle + Chester Beatty Library
Not everyone knows this, but Dublin Castle is right in the middle of the city and totally walkable. The real surprise, though, is
the Chester Beatty Library tucked in behind it. It’s one of those places you wander into without expectations — and then lose
an hour just soaking it in.
Free entry and full of treasures from all over the world.
- Dive Into Dublin’s Museums
Dublin has a bunch of free museums (yay, budget travelers!). The National Museum of Archaeology has ancient Irish gold,
Viking artifacts, and bog bodies — yes, real people mummified in Irish bogs for thousands of years. Creepy but fascinating.
Also check out the National Gallery if you’re into art.
Final Thoughts
Dublin is sometimes rainy, sometimes warm, walkable, and full of soul. It’s one of those cities that makes you feel like you belong, even if you’re just passing through. So whether you’re sipping Guinness, wandering through ancient libraries, or belting out folk songs in a pub with strangers — embrace it all.
