Midlands Youth Capture the Region in Stunning Style for 2025 Phone Photography Competition

The rich landscapes and vibrant communities of the Midlands have once again inspired the next generation of visual storytellers. The winner of the 2025 Midlands Phone Photography Competition has officially been announced, following a wave of over 250 impressive entries from young people aged 12–18 across the region.

After an intense judging process, William Garner of Arden Academy was crowned the overall winner, receiving a £100 prize and well-deserved recognition for his powerful and atmospheric photograph.

Judges praised William’s work for its “exceptional use of light and composition,” adding that the image “shows maturity, depth, and a clear artistic vision well beyond his years.”

Now in its first year, the Midlands Phone Photography Competition was created to empower young people to explore their creativity using the most accessible tool they own—their phones. Organisers were blown away by the range and quality of submissions, which included everything from dramatic countryside scenes and street photography to intimate portraits and abstract interpretations of daily life.

“There’s something really exciting happening with youth photography in the Midlands,” said lead judge Conor Mulloy. “What impressed us most was not just the technical ability, but the emotional weight and originality behind so many of the photos.”

Alongside William’s winning entry, we’ve also showcased a shortlist of standout submissions from other talented students across the region.

The 2025 competition proved how powerful young voices can be when given the tools and space to create—and it’s all been achieved through something as simple and familiar as a mobile phone.

Following the incredible success of this year’s competition, we’re excited to announce it will return in 2026 with a longer entry period, giving even more students a chance to participate. To stay updated, follow us on Instagram or join our mailing list.
